Dear Alice,

Thank you for your application. The committee met recently and we are pleased to inform you that by unanimous decision of the committee we would like to invite you to be a resident artist in the 2020 Spring session from 25 March to 28 April.

The cost of the 5-week residency is €3000. The cost includes shared housing (private room), a semi-private studio, a final exhibition, use of our equipment and technical support. Firing and materials are not included. We request a deposit of 500 euros, which confirms and reserves your selection to be paid two weeks after the receipt of this letter. It also serves as a damage deposit during your residency. This deposit is refundable within 30 days of  the end of the session. The cost of materials and firings will be deducted from the deposit, as well as any additional charges (bank charges, damages, etc). Payment in full of the residency fee is required of artists at least 2,5 months prior to the scheduled residency period. If you decide for any reason to not participate in the residency, the deposit and residency fee are non-refundable.

The work presented in the final exhibition must have been produced during the residency period. A 50% commission will be retained by c.r.e.t.a. rome for any work sold in the gallery during the exhibition period. At the end of the exhibition, you will be required to dismantle the show and arrange for transportion of the works before the end of the residency. In consultation with us, you are asked to donate a piece to the collection of works by residents which c.r.e.t.a. rome is establishing. If you decide to leave some or all of your work, we will retain a 50% commission for works sold. After one year, if you do not claim your pieces, they will become our property.

It is the responsibility of the artist to obtain any necessary visa(s) to enter Italy. As this is a non-employment program, a tourist visa will suffice. The (non-EU) artist may not remain in Italy more than 90 days.

Congratulations on your selection. Please respond to this e-mail to confirm your acceptance. We will then send the bank details for payment of the deposit and residency fee. Please send your security deposit within two weeks after receipt of this letter to confirm your place. We look forward to seeing you in Rome in spring 2020.

Best regards,

Lori-Ann and Paolo

Dear Alice,

We are safe in Rome and hoping to reopen the studio for ceramic classes at the beginning of June. We are already in phase 2 and so far it seems to be going well. Museums and exhibitions are supposed to open already on 18 May.

We are not expecting to restart residencies until at least the fall and perhaps as late as next spring. Our spring and summer residents have all opted to postpone their residencies until next year. In your cases, the residency period would be 31 March to 4 May. These are tentative dates but more or less match the dates that you were due to come this year. By next spring things should have settled into a new 'normal'. I double-checked flights for that period on google flights and they seem to be quite reasonable. Obviously, they are projecting for almost 10 months from now.

Since the deadline for spring 2021 residencies is 15 September, would 10 September be okay for fixing your residency period. Let us know if that would work for you.

All the best,

Lori-Ann and Paolo
