Lace Star Rigel
This brooch was made for the Tinker Tailer Soldier Sailor Exhibition curated by Kirsten Fitzpatrick of Artisan Qeensland. This project celebrated 100 years of International Womens day by including 100 brooches by 100 Australian women jewellers based on 100 Australian womens biographies.
I was given Margaret Anne Field (1842 - 1936)
This work was inspired by her lace pattens from her most famous book "Australian Lace Crochet (Easy and Artistic) which was first published in 1909 and has stayed in publication till recently.
The work has been made using a digital wax print and then lost was casting. It combines new and old technologies and is held in the Powerhouse Museum Permanent Collection. A second work was given to the Governor of Queensland Ms Penelope Wensley AC, by Artisan, in 2011.
